Beyond the Pancake Doll

They say it's good for you -- learning a new skill. In middle age I notice I have a tendency to stay with the tried and true, with the known. It's comfortable, like putting on your favorite flannel pjs. Comfortable, but maybe tired looking. It's just so easy to get in a rut.

I've set a few goals for myself this year, as far as doll-making goes. The first is to try to list something on Ebay every week. This may be hard because sometimes I put 40 hours into a creation. The second goal is to learn some new skills. First, I'm going to try more complicated patterns, that are beyond the pancake doll. Words like gussets and darts will be a big part of my future. ;-) My third goal is to create some patterns of my own - specifically of a Sun Fairy in the last post. I tried buying back that creation and wasn't able to. So I think I'll make a pattern of it. Using different fabrics of course, but having the same feel.

Late January I will celebrate my first anniversary making dolls. My first doll was horrible. But learning about doll-making has opened up a whole new world of artistry for me. Through dollmaking, I've met some wonderful people and view the world and people differently.
