Fresh and Green....

When I get old, I want to be the kind of old woman who paints on her walls. I want to be able to notice the difference between the color of sand and the color of wheat. I want to be like the woman in my town who walks in a kind of ungainly way - it is obviously a challenge - but always with a smile on her face. Even though her hip seems to be saying, "I will not do this!", her smile is what wins the day. If I must get old, I want to do it in a Psalm 92 kind of way,

"They will still bear fruit in old age,
they will stay fresh and green..."

I don't post this without thought on this particular date that is stamped in Americans' minds forever. There are many who have not had the opportunity to grow to old age - citizens, fireman, and police who fell when the towers fell. Every life taken on that day and every life given since by those who protect our country highlights this incredible gift of life and the possibility of getting old. I am grateful to them. It reminds me to cherish the opportunities I have before me in getting older. And it reminds me that I will only be fresh and green then if I am fresh and green now.

I love this. Today is my birthday and I want to be that sort of woman too :)
