Making Art Dolls and Cloth Over Clay Dolls Using Creative Paperclay

You learn something new every day.   At least on a good day!  ;-)   One of the things I learned last year was that creative paperclay can be rolled out with a rolling pin like piecrust.  I learned this from E. J. Taylor

I enjoy making  cloth over clay dolls using paperclay.  It's a very forgiving medium, easily sanded, easy to build up, non-toxic.  Even if you make a mistake, which I often do, it is easy to sand them off, or to add more clay over them.  :-)  I like that!  Be sure to visit the VIDEOS at the top which show me applying paperclay to a doll.

Tomorrow I will be taking  some in process dolls with me to speak to the local UFDC club about Izannah Walker.  It will be fun to meet some other people who appreciate folk art dolls!

Dixie, paperclay is my favorite medium for sculpting dolls. I bagan with polymer clay, but hated the breakage factor that I switched to paperclay and never went back. That being said, I haven't created a doll in so many months! I miss it, but don't have the amount of hours in a day I would need to do that and finish all my other projects, LOL!

EJ Taylor is one of my all time favorite doll artists. i was first awed by him when i saw pictures of his NYC holiday window (not sure which dept. store it was for) He showed me the possibilities for dollmaking.

Anyway, thanks for sharing your beautiful work.

I am a wood carver and sculptor and I use creative paper clay for more things than I can count. There are just no limitations to what it can be used for. It's by far my favorite clay I have ever worked with, and has become a go to even for household repairs.
