I Tell Myself Big Fat Lies

I posted this in the MAIDA Dolls Group:
"Angel choirs should be singing!   I went into my work room and threw out two large garbage bags of detritus.  I said aloud to my husband, a la Scarlett in Gone With the Wind, "As G*d as my witness, I"ll never be hoarder again..."  I want to mean it...
Having said that, I have to acknowledge that I tell myself lies. I tell myself BIG FAT LIES.

I tell myself lies about how much time I have and how much room I have. Here's are some lies I tell myself:

"I will save these little snippets of fabric and make a doll quilt."
"I will re-read these old  magazines for inspiration."
"I need more fabric." "I NEEEEEEEED ________ (fill in the blank)."
"I will make tote bags out of these remnants of upholstery fabric."
"I have time to add one more thing to my plate."
"I will make a doll out of these chair parts."

The last one is true, I kid you not. I had bought some nice 70's colonial repro chairs at auction once, and my kids broke one.  I took the chair apart to save the spindles to make a make-do doll.. A ha ha ha ha. I crack me up!

There are more...but I am recognizing that I would PAY someone to give me more space, so giving up STUFF is one way of paying for the space. Also, I am evaluating how the sewing room works for me and how it doesn't. My sewing table is an old dining table from my old house. It's too big. it allows for stuff to be piled on top of it, which isn't good. It allows for stuff to collect UNDERNEATH. AND. I have cubbies on top of the table which really are not very good in terms of storage, so it contributes to clutter. It's like there are little holes that say, "Fill me up".

This is such a timely post for me. I've been in the process for over a week, but can only take the decisions for an hour or so at a time. Some days I can make a bigger effort, but frequently, I haul myself downstairs as if some physical terror is coming after me. I can't even use my ironing board without clearing things off the convenient "shelf" space it offers.

May I use your "lies" in a post of my own? Will link and attribute, of course!

Hi, Jen -

While I don't encourage lying - I understand how we can tell ourselves big whoppers. :-) Have fun and let me know when you post.
