Progress in the House

This is not a decorating blog. Mostly I focus on art here, but sometimes I share about life things that are going on.  I've been making changes in my kitchen and family room, which are open to each other.  The top picture is the "before" and the bottom picture is the "during".

Changes in a house take more time than you think they will. Today the carpenter is putting on the finishing touches on walls and countertops. He is a very nice guy.  But it doesn't matter how nice they are, I don't enjoy having people in my house.

I chose to do a mini update, replacing laminate countertops with laminate and painting walls and cabinets. I didn't want to have to deal with living with a full gut job.

Now it will be my job to paint the walls and cabinets.  I'm still deciding between white and blue.  I have until I finish priming to make my final decision.

We are renovating too. It is hard to know exactly what to do. I chose the whitest white I could get for the entire house to help with light. I wanted the house to feel more airy and cleaner. I downsized on things and furniture and am trying to uncomplicate the place. I am going to splurge on one thing. I will get granite for the stove island and the countertops. It will take all my money, but this is the last go round, so it will be what I will always have here. Sometimes in life, we get so busy and things crowd in on us that I felt simple walls and open spaces would calm my mind and give me some room to think and relax. It is like throwing off a coat or shirt when we get to hot. Your kitchen will be very pretty and I think you are making great choices.

Dixie whatever you decide, it will look very nice. I love your new countertop. It completely lightened up your kitchen. I am looking forward to doing the same to my countertop. My personal opinion is white cabinets have a timeless look. So you can't go wrong. Then paint your walls a lovely blue. Wall color is a lot easier to change than cabinet color. Trust me, I know. ;> )

I've started painting! FINALLY decided on a color. Am using Benjamin Moore Advsnce paint in satin finish. It's pricey, but dries to a hard finish.
