In the past couple of years it was my habit to read a chapter from the book of Proverbs in the Bible each day. If it was the 15th, I would read chapter 15, the 20th, chapter 20, etc. Because there are 31 chapters to Proverbs - one for every day of the month. Anyway, one day I read the following from Proverbs 3 - speaking of wisdom:
13 Blessed is the man who finds wisdom,
the man who gains understanding,14 for she is more profitable than silver
and yields better returns than gold.15 She is more precious than rubies;
nothing you desire can compare with her.16 Long life is in her right hand;
in her left hand are riches and honor.17 Her ways are pleasant ways,
and all her paths are peace.18 She is a tree of life to those who embrace her;
those who lay hold of her will be blessed.
I did a lot of thinking about the "tree of life" image - was doodling it on napkins, looking it up in folk art books, and also did a search on Ebay. When I searched for Folk Art Tree of Life, a painting of Jane DesRosier's came up. This was a while ago. I kept watching Jane's paintings every week to see what she might unveil that week - she paints very distinctive angels and trees in a folk art format. She also uses very unusual things as canvases! ;-)
Some time ago I listed a painting called "Seeds and Tears" on Ebay. To my surprise Jane bid on it and won it. The painting was based on my thinking about Psalm 126. I began an image that was based on a stylized Izannah Walker curl hairstyle. Click here to read about Psalm 126. It was so encouraging to me to have another artist purchase that painting, which was a very personal work.

I think I need to start reading Proverbs again. And save up money to buy one of Jane's paintings!
