Day 9: A Goal Uncovered

An art goal has been illuminated.

I miss using color.
I found some experimental paintings I did
about 7 years ago while cleaning out yesterday.

They were behind
headless antique doll bodies.

Interesting, huh?

I was going to call this post
"Behind the Dead Bodies"
but decided it was too morbid.

I'm not a good copywriter,
because I overthink it.
Oh, yeah, where were we?

Goodbye, Burnt Umber?!

I love making art dolls.  But if all I do is make antique inspired art dolls my palette is very limited.  I have used a lot of parchment and burnt umber and some burnt crimson and red.   But not much in the eggplant and cerise and hot pink and aegean green departments.  I miss those colors.

An art goal is made.

This  painting  above will be my starting point.  I'd like to make a larger painting inspired by it.  I want to take out my full palette and paint with violets and greens and blues.

Will I still make antique inspired dolls?  Yes.

Will I do other things as well?  YES.   Maybe the ratio will be a bit different.

It is poignant and relates to what I'm writing about here.  You should read it.

  1. I love your dolls, but I am very much impressed with your paintings, as well! Eager to see the "new ratio."

  3. I just read the toppling tower of too much. I have told you before that I have way to much stuff, but I also find comfort at times when I am not home (usually some place I am not excited at being at), thinking about going home and using all my stuff to make things. I have so many contradictions right now - too much stuff, but then I tell myself, I have collected this stuff for years and I love it. I need to thin out my stuff but everytime I pick up something to sell or giveaway I think of where I got it, how beautiful it is (to me)and it is a one of a kind vintage item and I could never find another one like it, and then, I will keep it just a little longer in case I need it. Does this not sound like a bunch of crazy jumbled thoughts???? Well, the good thing is I am finally starting to analyze this obsession with stuff to make stuff.

I better go to bed, I know I sound silly about all this, but it is so true!!
