Dollmaking Day 2: The Art of Finishing

If you are like me, you have some Un-Finished Objects (UFOs) lurking in your workroom..   See below. Some of these were on my list last September!  What gets in the way of finishing some things up?  Let's think about that.  This is not just about dolls, this can be about any kind of project.

Not finishing things has a psychological weight to it.  In the Maida Dolls Group we have been talking about this.  What gets in the way? Time/other pursuits. Lack of inspiration. Dissatisfaction with the present state of the work.  A choice needs to be made. Addiction to the NEW IDEA. Sometimes it is something justifiable. A family member is ill, or you are in a major life change and have too much on your plate.  But other times, we are just making excuses for not doing the work.

Go to your workroom and line up all your unfinished works.  Decide which ones you actually WANT to finish  It's ok to decide NOT to finish one.  Make a list of what each one needs to be finished.   Break the task down into manageable chunks.   Then pick ONE to finish.

See that black doll there?  She's my Big Experiement doll.  The poor thing just needs to have the arms stuffed and painted and some clothing made.  Likewise for many other works.  It's DO-ABLE.  Use the Nancy Zieman 10-20-30 Minutes to Sew method.  Here are a couple of links about finishing things.
