Truth in Advertising

There is a cafe and catering company in Bangor, Maine on Columbia Street called Montes (Mon-tez). They make the world's best roasted vegetable wraps. I always swear I'm going to try a new food there, and I always end up getting the vegetable wrap because I can't imagine anything better than that. I'm sure all the other wraps and dishes are just as good at Montes, I just can't bear to NOT get the wrap.

I will allow myself to do "additions" and what you see pictured is one of them.

I picked up the wraps and the Whoopie Pie to share with my friend Rebecca, who is heading off on Thursday to begin a new life as a Wycliffe Bible Translator in the mountains of Mexico. Oh, how joyful it is to see her find and follow her calling! But oh, how hard it is to see her go! She is like family to me - sometimes sister, sometimes like a daughter. I will miss her.

Many, many years ago God sent Rebecca to my house by "accident". Little did we know that a deep bond between Rebecca and my family was formed that day.

We had a good laugh today about the "truth in advertising" in the label on the whoopie pie. Not many products are labeled in such a way. But I did find a way to defeat it's name. Rebecca and I went to a friend's house and we cut that whoopie pie into 8 small wedges. We ate them, and then we prayed.

I joked with Rebecca that I would have some of these whoopie pies airlifted to her in Mexico. What I really want to have air-lifted is my love for her and thankfulness for her. I need to remember that's what prayer is for. My prayer is that God will send her the "Rebeccas" that she needs in her life.

Hey Dix....can I steal this picture? Can I make a quilt out of it? And call it Bangor's Big Ass Whoopie Pie? Geez....this looks good....I'm not kidding about stealing the picture....can I? Email me when you can & let me know.

Parting is such sweet sorrow...leaving behind precious memories and thoughts of a joyful reunion....
