When I was a girl at church, they used the King James version of the Bible to read from in services. Some of the phrases are so beautiful, such as Jesus' words,

Sometimes, though, I love to read something I memorized in my youth in a modern version. You can go to biblegateway.com and look up passages with their site in many different translations. You can look up phrases or put in specific books and verses. I love that site.
I decided to read the above passage in a translation called, "The Message". I love that translation because it presents the feeling of the original language with today's idioms. So here is the "consider the lilies" passage in The Message.
"Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these."

"Has anyone by fussing before the mirror ever gotten taller by so much as an inch? If fussing can't even do that, why fuss at all? Walk into the fields and look at the wildflowers. They don't fuss with their appearance—but have you ever seen color and design quite like it? The ten best-dressed men and women in the country look shabby alongside them. If God gives such attention to the wildflowers, most of them never even seen, don't you think he'll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you?"I grow a lot of daylilies. This variety has been budding out and now is putting on the beginning of a show. This bloom will last today and that's it. If I go out tomorrow to look at this particular bloom it will be a sodden mushy mess. Yet God has lavished such care and color on it. I almost missed this bloom.

Daylily blooms are like days, aren't they? Yesterday's blooms are nice to remember, but there's nothing like the one blooming right now? I really need to remember that.
