Haying Season...

It's been haying season here in Maine the last month. We'll probably have another round in September. Almost 20 years ago I went to the Boston Museum of Fine Arts to see an exhibit of Impressionists, and they had a number of Monet's haystack paintings.

Okay, these paintings of Monet's are not technically haystacks. I think they're actually stacks of wheat. They were done that way so that the grain would stay dry. When Monet painted them he saw much more than stacks of grain. He saw the expression of light and color. Beautiful, aren't they? I love seeing haystacks on a crisp clear Edward Hopperish kind of day here in New England.

When we look at the common images
of our day do we see beauty?

Monet is one of my very favorite artists....his work is so relaxed, and dream-like....I just love his use of color too!
