Primitive Folk Art Paper Doll Painting on Ebay

Now on Ebay....

I'm in a group of folk artists, and one day someone pointed out an antique paper doll to the group. I loved the shape of it, and the naivete' of the silhouette. So I based a painting on the silhouette of the paper doll. It's been a fun one to paint. I used red, white and blue to give it a summertime Americana spin. It is painted with a layering technique where I put one color on top of another and let the base colors show through. I sand and scrape and wipe paint off here and there to give it some visual interest.

I'm planning to do a series based on this silhouette, so keep your eye out.

And here's an interesting quote
that I read on the My Croft blog

Eccentricity has always abounded when and where
strength of character has abounded;
and the amount of eccentricity in a society
has generally been proportional
to the amount of genius,
mental vigor, and moral courage which it contained.
That so few now dare to be eccentric,
marks the chief danger of the time.
—John Stuart Mill, On Liberty

Hi Dixie! I think this painting looks great. I love your dolls but I covet your paintings!
By the way, I haven't forgotten my 'thank you' piece I'm sending you (when finished, when I stop being overwhelmed, when, when, when....)
