Day 22: Rules Aren't Always Meant to Be Broken

Spoonflower recommends using a phosphate free laundry detergent when washing their fabrics.  This picture at left shows why you should believe them.

I disbelieved them and look what happened to the fabric printed on voile that's in the bottom of the photograph.  The voile in particular resents being washed in a washing machine with washing machine detergent that has phosphates in it.

Hand wash the voile in a phosphate free detergent.

Well...now it looks antique!

I think it needs to be overdyed with tea or tan, Robin. But yes, it does look like it's lived a bit!

I was just thinking what Robin said...instant aging! If you overdye it, use tea or walnut ink or such, not a permanent dye. It's really lovely fabric, Dixie.

I think I will make the dress and then overdye it. We'll see. It's always something! ;-)
