Many of these recipes used molasses and reflected the fact that foods were rationed. The "T-Bone Steak" was made to look like steak from lesser cuts of chopped beef. The recipe for "Cora Hatch's Doughnuts" were made from potatoes. This appears to be a traditional German recipe. I may try the potato doughnuts sometime. Enjoy.
Day 17: Grammy Grace's Recipes
Recently I came across my great-grandmother Grace's box of recipes. I never met her, she passed away long before I was born. Most of the recipes were from the 1940's during World War 2. It was interesting to see the names of specific people at the top of the recipes - this was back when a woman's standing was measured by homemaking skills. Giving a recipe in those times was a sign of friendship. They were closely guarded.
