It's all in the hand...



A dollie friend of mine sent me a CD of wonderful pictures of old cloth dolls that she's saved for a while. I love looking at these pictures and seeing the individuality the maker put into the doll. For instance, this resolute lovely above is quite empowered with huge hands...







Someone went to a lot of trouble - and meticulous work, too! - to make this hand. Look at the thumb! Wow. Isn't that astounding? I know that turning those fingers was quite a chore. And then stuffing them without blow-outs in a world without Fray-check? Someone had a lot of patience. My next doll is going to have individual fingers. I've never done that before.
