Sowing Seeds

Psalm 126: 5-6

Those who sow in tears
will reap with songs of joy.
He who goes out weeping,
carrying seed to sow,
will return with songs of joy,
carrying sheaves with him.

I'm working on two paintings that are meditations on these verses. If you read the verses in a modern paraphrase called The Message it reads this way -

And now, God, do it again—
bring rains to our drought-stricken lives
So those who planted their crops in despair
will shout hurrahs at the harvest,
So those who went off with heavy hearts
will come home laughing, with armloads of blessing.

Another translation gives the idea that the tears come because your supply of seed is so small and you're crying because you're using the last of it as you plant.

Have you ever felt your available resources were down to the reserves and you weren't sure whether to use them or not? It happens in all kinds of ways - parenting, starting a business, persevering in difficult times, working through relationship difficulties, etc. But it's when you give up that supply of seed and plant it that trust and faith are really in action. And that's the time to remember that God is close to the broken-hearted and poor in spirit and that He lifts up those who are bowed down.

What a beautiful painting! I am very moved by it's strength. I'll keep an eye out for it. :)

Best wishes,
