It's been a busy season, and truth be told I'm pooped. Right before The Great Sugar Cookie Bender, I sculpted a couple of dolls heads and worked on a couple of paintings. They are all in progress and will change drastically by the time they're done. But I enjoy documenting the progress, so here goes. The painting above has some of the flatness of a folk art painting, but is a bit too flat for my taste. I'll be lightening the background color and giving more modelingto Little Red Riding Hood. Taking pictures of your creations is a great way to see it with fresh eyes. You see things you don't notice with the naked eye.
A washy study for a painting.
I like this in its present state,
so may just leave it and work
on another painting from
the ideas in this painting.

I used the template from one of my own doll pattern designs and traced around them. I'll be layering other colors over the orange on top. What I envision as an end product is very different from the beginning stage of this. We'll see.
What are you working on?

Wow! You have been busy, busy! I've only had time to work on things in my mind, if you know what I mean. I can't wait to see your paintings and doll when finished. :0)
Happy New Year,
Mira
Hey Dixie! I love the Little Red Hiding Hood painting...just adorable! I wanted to let you know that I am going to purchase your doll book. I am updating some of my on-line accounts. You mentioned the book to me in Gail's Doll Group. Please let me know if you are you planning to sell your works in progress?
So, Dixie. Is the unidentified head MY Santa -- or ornament of some sort? Hee hee. I love your paintings. I don't see ANYTHING amiss in your Red Riding Hood, btw -- and all I've got is the photo for reference. But I know how it is. I look and I look at mine. One minute, it's good; the next, it's disaster. The curse of being an artist, I guess.

Hi, all -
Thanks for the kind comments. Kristin, I usually sell things once I'm finished. I often sell on Ebay but sometimes put things on my selling blog - www.northdixiedesignsmercantile.blogspot.com
Nina - the Creation That Was Once Santa might be your "ornament". She's still in the gestation stage. OTOH, I might end up making you a brand new work. :-)
Dixie
