Signs of Spring in Maine

The first sign of spring in Maine is the
bloom of fluorescent signs on the side
of the road. The ground underneath
the roads is very soft.

Heavy snow melt and spring rain erodes the sides
of the roads and those spots are marked, too.

One of my favorite signs of spring are the "bump" signs that appear along the road. These signs are put up for the serious bone-jarring bumps, because there are many bumps that aren't marked at all. Sometimes the signs are just hung from tree branches, and other times natural supports are used.

Don't you wish that life had "bump" signs? It would be great if someone would plant a sign along the way that would tell you to slow down, that there's a "bump" ahead.

But my personal experience is that sometimes I take my chances and don't believe there's a bump even if there's a sign.

Here are some other signs of spring...
