Day 15: Planning Realistically

Keeping this October goal in mind...
This is the point of cleaning out!

When I planned this 20 Days of Wiping the Slate Clean I was unrealistic.  I did not block off chunks of time for the grocery store, laundry, buying soccer gear, sick time for kids, conversations about autism, school meetings, etc.       I forgot to add in time with friends and cooking and cleaning and birthdays and soccer trips.   I forget to leave in some margin, some white space.  What was I thinking?

But I have scheduled a Habitat for Humanity pick up for the good furniture that I do not need.  So that feels right.   I'm going to be looking in every nook and cranny.  I will be thorough.   In fact, I should probably tell my friends and neighbors.  What a good idea!   Habitat for Humanity has volunteers who will come to your house to pick up good furniture and other items. Habitat for Humanity's ReSTORE sells donated items to make money to help people gain affordable housing.  I really like that!   To see a list of what is needed for the Bangor, Maine store, click here.

Do the best you can do and get it done when you can, your family is more important. Women always overextend themselves and alot of times don't realize how much they are doing it until they set a date to do something specific and it does not get done, even though you have been running around like crazy doing things, not just sitting on the couch eating bon bon's. I still don't think alot of men realize what we do in a day. I have a wonderful husband, but he says "why do you have to do laundry everyday" and I say " I would rather do 1 load a day instead of letting it pile up". His response is " I would just do it all in one day on the weekend". First of all, he has never done the laundry, second some things like volleyball clothes, etc have to be worn more than once a week, therefore you have to wash more than once a week" AND I DON'T HAVE ONE DAY THAT I CAN SIT AROUND AND NOT HAVE TO RUN SOME KIND OF ERRANDS, TAKE THE KIDS SOMEWHERE, GO TO THE GROCERY STORE, ETC. After 20 years of marriage, he still does not get it, but that's ok because he is a good husband, friend, father, provider and comes home every night very hungry wanting his dinner!!!!!

I love the Habitat stores. When we redo a house, I make sure the ceiling fans, etc. and any salvageable parts, (doors, vanities, etc.) go there. We also buy bargains there for our rehabs. Great concept, great place to put words into action.

It is a great concept. :-) I did identify a lot of things mentally that will be going. Now to move them out to the garage for the pickup day!

I'm going with the less is more option.
