I received these lovely vintage cloth pieces from Dawn of The Feathered Nest. She thought I might be able to use these feedsack pieces for some dollies. I have the perfect vintage pattern for them, too! I purchased this doll and made a pattern from her. I've thought it would be so interesting to try and make one with a bold all-over print.
Yesterday I made a larger doll body for the large head I made. I'm still deciding what direction to go with this one. When she's finished she will be close to 30" tall. Yowza.
I gessoed over the head with the intention of adding some paperclay features to her. I will need to reposition the features to allow for more forehead area and the eyes are too wide apart right now. Also, I need to decide what skin color she wants.
Usually when I add paperclay to dolls I dry them in a 200 degree oven, but this girl is so big I will have to do it in stages - such as front of the doll, bake, back of the head, bake, add facial features, bake again. You can see that this stage can take a while. Here she is with her first layer of paperclay on the face and front shoulder-plate area.
